The Wells, Barkerville, Bowron Lakes region is BC's Must-See for people looking for winter adventure. We usually have at least 18 to 25 feet of fluffy snow with beautiful sunny days and amazing starry nights.  Northern lights flicker along the horizon.

You can snowmobile, cross-country ski, snowshoe, dogsled, downhill ski or snowboard in the pristine backcountry and then retire back to your accommodation, or head to a local pub or cozy restaurant for a night on the town. Special events abound throughout the area, with the annual Old Fashion Christmas in Barkerville and the Gourmet Ski Tour in Wells on February 19, 2011.

By using the specially designated snowmobile corridor through the community snowmobilers can gas-up and reach their accommodation without having to load up their snowmobiles.

Trails are groomed on a regular basis and trail passes are available at local outlets in Wells as well as at a specially designed snowmobiler check-in near the entrance of Wells. For more information, including up to date snow conditions be sure to check out the Wells Snowmobile Club website.

The newly upgraded Wells-Barkerville Mt. Trail Network includes 100's of kilometers of groomed and ungroomed trails for all ability levels.The network travels through an amazing backcountry where moose, ptarmigan and wintering swans are sometimes seen and the trails provide access to the forested slopes of local mountains for fabulous views of the surrounding area.

One of the most popular and interesting winter time activities in the area is dog sledding.

Dog sledders from right across the world come to Wells to take part in the prestigious Gold Rush Trail Sled Dog Mail Run. 

This annual event takes place on January 21-23, 2011 on a trail that starts in Quesnel and ends in the scenic mountain community of Wells, with a distance of 90 kilometers. 

On top of all the excellent winter time activities, be sure to think of the Wells, Barkerville, Bowron lakes region when you plan your next summer vacation.

Home to Barkerville Historic Town, western North America's premiere heritage attraction, Bowron Lakes Provincial Park, one of the top 10 canoe circuits in the world, and Wells, a restored 1930's mining town chock- full of unique architecture and fascinating galleries, the Wells, Barkerville, Bowron lakes area is a must see for anyone visiting British Columbia.


How to find us

By road: from Quesnel on Highway 97, turn east on Highway 26 and travel 74 km to Wells, 82 km to Barkerville and 120 km to Bowron Lakes.

By rail: Via Rail has regular passenger service to the region. Vehicle rental is available.

By air: nearby Quesnel and Prince George are serviced by daily Central Mountain Air or Westjet service from Vancouver and Edmonton.
