You can pan for gold and visit an operating gold mine, visit ghost towns from the 1860s, or spend a day hiking in spectacular alpine meadows.

At 1200 meters (4000 feet) we have fabulous snow and a six month season. Our fully groomed snowmobile trails attract riders from right across the province, and the uncrowded cross-country ski trails on Cornish Mountain start right at your door.  Downhill skiing at Troll Resort is just 25 minutes away.

Barkerville has been a destination for adventure for more than 100 years. Here is an impressive
list of summer and winter activities in the Barkerville area that have nothing to do with gold.

Follow in the footsteps of the first gold miners to the area by hiking, biking or skiing the original Cariboo Wagon Road (built in 1865) to Summit Rock (5 km), to Groundhog Lake (10 km) or to Stanley (approx. 25 km).

Or hike the 1861 Gold Rush Pack Trail from Barkerville to Keithley Creek (40 km). This 3 day hike is part of Canada’s National Hiking Trail, a non-motorized hiking trail that stretches completely across Canada. Hike or ski Mt. Murray (8-10 km). There are some great opportunities for back-country skiing here. For overnight information please contact the Cariboo Ski-Touring Club.

Snowmobile on groomed trails from the Barkerville parking lot to Mt. Agnes, home of the Great Canadian Hill Climb held each year in March. Ride our groomed trails to Yanks Peak (Likely), Stony Lake (Prince George) and Wells.

Once you've decided to explore Bowron Lake Provincial Park, there are plenty of other plans to make.

For those with the time, the entire canoe circuit takes 5 to 10 days. 116 km of mixed lake and river paddling with 7 portages, the longest of which is 2.8 kilometers makes the adventure of a life time. The east side travels through the steep and rugged Cariboo Mountains, while the west side traverses the more gentle Quesnel Highlands.

Shorter trips from one to five days can be made on the West Side of the canoe circuit. Both options will provide excellent mountain vistas and wildlife viewing opportunities. Reservations are needed for all overnight trips.Guided trips and equipment rentals are available.

You don't have to do the whole circuit when you visit Bowron Lake. For those with less time you can still enjoy the lakeside ambiance at one of the lodges or public or private campgrounds, do a bit of fishing and explore the Bowron Slough home to eagle, osprey and American bitterns.
