District of Wells
More Than Just GoldTime to Post Jobs and Accommodations Listings
PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY FOR THE TOURIST SEASON

Although the blossoms aren't exactly blooming yet in Wells, it is officially spring, and that means the busy tourist season is coming right up.
With the return of the tourists, comes the return of the seasonal workers, and the Wells, Barkerville, Bowron Lakes area is expecting a huge population increase in the coming months.
Because of the large number of properties that have changed hands over the past year, rental accommodations could be in short supply this summer.
With that in mind, any businesses or individuals that have accommodations for rent are encouraged to send the particulars to the District of Wells by emailing wells@goldcity.net.
The District of Wells will also be taking any job postings that people have, and we will place both the accommodations for rent and the job postings on the relevant pages of the wellsbc.com website.

Community Garden Coming to Wells
THINK GLOBALLY - GROW LOCALLY

Thanks to the hard work of a group of local residents, along with the donation of the use of a parcel of District of Wells land, the community of Wells will soon have a community garden.
At the March 6, 2007 District of Wells Council Meeting, Megan Topham, spokesperson for the Wells Community Garden Committee, provided Council with details on the Wells Community Garden Proposal.
The end result of this proposal was a motion by Council that provided for the District of Wells to provide the Wells Community Garden Committee with the use of the District of Wells owned lot at the corner of Sanders Ave. and Dawson St. free of charge as a space for the community garden.
It was also noted in the motion that the lot will be made available until such time as the District of Wells determines that it needs the land for other purposes.
With a location sewn up, the Wells Community Garden Committee is now focussing on getting the gardening space ready for the upcoming planting season.
"The hope is to start getting the garden space ready as soon as the snow is gone," said Megan Topham, committe spokesperson. "The plan is to build between 10-15 individual raised bed plots, along with a community perennial garden, with fruit and vegetables mixed in. We will also have a separate children's plot, along with a tool shed and dry compost."
In order to pull off this ambitious undertaking, the Wells Community Garden Committee is looking for donations of materials and labour.
"We need a bunch of stuff," said Megan. "We're looking for windows, lumber and logs for the raised beds, along with top soil, compost and manure, straw and perennials. If people are interested in helping do the construction of the beds that would help too"
If anybody has items that they'd like to donate, or if you would like to become a member of the Wells community garden, contact Megan Topham directly at 994-6809 or via email at polarbearpancake@hotmail.com.
