More Than Just GoldFirst Annual Cariboo Jack Ski Trek a Success
SKI TOUR FROM BARKERVILLE TO STANLEY ATTRACTS GOOD TURNOUT

All photographs © Bill Horne

The First Annual Cariboo Jack Ski Trek was officially a success.
This brand-new addition to the many wintertime events in the Wells, Barkerville area followed the same trail taken by the annual Gold Rush Sled Dog Mail Run along the historic Cariboo Waggon Road, a distance of approximately 25 km. By traveling this route from Barkerville to Stanley, skiers honoured local and regional history, as well as the gold rush history that brought British Columbia into Confederation 150 years ago
According to the Cariboo Jack Blog, run by event organizer Bill Horne, everything went well. "The Fresh snow, agreeable temperatures, no injuries or lost skiers...it was a classic trek!" wrote Bill. "The warm welcome from Larry, Barb, Sean and Bryn at Stanley made a perfect ending to a beautiful day."
Congratulations to all the skiers who made the trek:
Kate Sulis, Ellen Woodsworth, Dave Jorgenson, Beth Collingwood, Bill Horne, Ron Watteyne, Joe Patton, Sheila Fleming, Uta Schuler, Percy Hanna, Arnold Kilsbey, Yael Wand, Jason Griffin, Dennis Bogle, Pete Wright, Mike Boly.

Random Wells
IMAGES FROM WELLS AND AREA

The 16th Annual Gold Rush Sled Dog Mail Run took place in Quesnel, Troll, Barkerville and Wells, from January 24 to 27, with one of the best turnouts ever for the event.
Over 40 teams took place in the event, which wrapped up with the Barkerville Dash from Barkerville Historic Town to Wells on Sunday, January 27th.
As is always the case with these events, there are a ton of people working behind the scenes who make it happen. The District of Wells would like to send out a HUGE "Thank You " to Dave Jorgenson and Cheryl McCarthy for all of their hard work in creating an awesome welcoming area in Wells for the Gold Rush Trail Dog Sled Mail Run participants.
The "musher's maze" and snow snake trench that they built were excellent, and the many visitors to the area, along with local residents big and small, were impressed, in no small part thanks to Dave and Cheryl's efforts.
