Visitors to the area are advised to be "Bear Aware," as both Black Bears and Grizzly Bears have been spotted within town boundaries. For more information on human-bear interactions please visit the Bear Aware website. Located 60 minutes east of Quesnel, in the Cariboo Chilcotin-Coast region of British Columbia, the Wells, Barkerville, Bowron Lakes area links up with major tourist routes, and is a perfect tie-in for travellers visiting Alaska, Banff, Whistler, and numerous other tourist destinations in western Canada. In 2008 Barkerville is open May 12th until September 30th. |

| Besides entertainment, guests to the area can look forward to some of the best eco-tourism and adventure tourism pursuits in British Columbia. The Wells and Area Trails Society maintains a network of old mining trails, historic ditchlines and mining and forestry roads that make incredible recreation trails today. These trails offer challenging options for all levels of hiker, and are used for snowmobiling and skiing in the winter. |

And of course there's awe inspiring canoeing and nature viewing at scenic Bowron Lake Provincial Park. World famous for its amazing wilderness canoe circuit – 116 kilometres of lakes and rivers that wander through beautiful mountain wilderness, the Bowron Lakes are open for canoeing from late spring through until autumn. |

How to find us By road: from Quesnel on Highway 97, turn east on Highway 26 and travel 74 km to Wells, 82 km to Barkerville and 120 km to Bowron Lakes. By rail: Via Rail has regular passenger service to the region. Vehicle rental is available. By air: nearby Quesnel and Prince George are serviced by daily Central Mountain Air or Westjet service from Vancouver and Edmonton. |
